Length of Program: 44-48 months

Program Description

The Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) Program is designed to prepare baccalaureate professional nurses who have a broad knowledge of nursing science, the humanities, the biological and social sciences. Unlike the associate’s degree and diploma nursing programs, which can be completed in two years, the BSN requires four years of study. The student completes the same nursing curriculum as the Associate level plus the BSN courses.

Program Objective

Upon completion of the Nursing Program the graduate will be able to:

  • Integrate theoretical knowledge from the physical and behavioral sciences and humanities into professional nursing.
  • Apply principles of leadership to design, manage, coordinate, and evaluate health care delivery within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Incorporate knowledge of economics, legal, ethical, and political factors that are influencing the healthcare systems and policy to advocate for recipients of nursing care.
  • Evaluate, apply and communicate research findings to improve the professional practice.
  • Demonstrate professional nursing standards, values, and accountability.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional growth development through continuing education and in participation in professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with the recipients of health care and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team for health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention and management, and health restoration within the Scope of nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate the professional role of care provider, coordinator of nursing care, member of a profession and a lifelong learner.
  • Apply clinical judgement using reflection, critical thinking, and problem solving to provide safe, competent effective nursing care across the continuum of care and within accordance with standards of practice, legal, ethical guidelines, and within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Prepares the student for eligibility to take the NCLEX

Students must be prepared to travel to their externship assignments up to 50 miles from the campus each direction. Please note that students are responsible for all costs associated with transportation to and from the clinical sites.

Program Prerequisites

Nursing Program applicants must complete the following admissions requirements:

  • Level 2 Criminal background check (at expense of applicant)
  • Drug screening (at expense of applicant)
  • Submit official high school transcripts or GED certificate
  • Submit official college transcripts for all courses taken for transfer. In cases of applicants with foreign postsecondary education, an original Joseph Silny’s translation/evaluation is required.
  • All classes considered for transfer must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Present three references with contact information
  • Complete a program enrollment agreement and submit a registration fee
  • Interview with the Nursing Program Director

Successful completion of the process will result in the receipt of a letter of acceptance to the Nursing Program.

Courses:
To receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, students must complete 79.0 credits in their major, 42.0 credits in General Education and prerequisite science courses for a total of 121.0 credits. This degree program can be completed in 44 months for full time students.
